The purpose for fishing for business Is the same purpose as farming for business or hunting for business; to get more business. New business starts with a new introduction – that new introduction is what you’re fishing for.

New connections come through an introduction:

1. Request from client (This is farming for business)

2. Third Party introduction (“you should meet…”)

3. Pitch from vendor (overview in the next section)


Third Party introduction GET REFERRALS!!! (all the time)

Referrals are the commodity of our age… don’t ignore them (always respond). Certainly don’t be afraid to ask for them.

Three easy steps to pick up reviews:
1st. Listen for people to give you a complement

2nd. Ask if they’d be willing to give a 5-star review regarding that on social media (wait for an answer)

3rd. You keep your name/personal brand in front of your referral network through “content”

Two tools in referral generation:

1. Give to get endorsements

  • The web is designed for endorsements, referrals, opinions and recommendations; so pass out some praise. Give a review; then be willing to ask them if they would endorse you back

Implementation ideas & which Content Channels to use:

  • Website & Your Blogs): Create a place on your website or blog where your endorsements are stored (providing links there to your other branded pages]. Remember; every link is a vote, an endorsement… telling search engines to recommend this page. Social Networks, Industry Listings, Directories: Once you give an endorsement, check their network for people they know who could be a lead.
