Internet Marketing is: marketing… using the internet.

Internet Marketing is the broadest term for the type of marketed which is saved to a website somewhere on the web, and then found by a potential client or referral partner, from which your business makes money.

SEO, on the other hand, is a guess

SEO is an acronym for Search Engine Optimization. This includes the actions which lead search engines to mention your business. SEO is often free, but personifies the term “sweat equity.” Everything costs time or money; that’s business.

“SEO is a constant guessing game searching for what the Googles, Bings and Siri’s of the world will show when someone talks to their phone, or types into a computer in search of your business.”

– Dan Wilson

SearchEngineLand.com is my recommended guide for SEO since 2010.

While there are a couple of these that wore out in any given year, here’s a picture of my 2013 copy:

I share this to both communicate a history in the industry, but also to show that each year’s previous table never goes away. Some parts are deleted, but one year’s factors are a tweak of the previous year’s factors. This industry has grown so fast that language can barely keep up.

2022’s SEO Periodic Table:

The internet is still a bunch of on/off switches. If you fight against using this type of guide, you’re fighting against math. There are other periodic tables, which probably come from smart people too, but I’m a sucker for the originator and creator of a thing – and that’s searchengineland.com‘s SEO Periodic Table. Much of SEO is completed on your website.
Two specific niche needs for SEO are Publishing and eCommerce websites. This information will be covered in our second training class

Local Search Periodic Table niche:

These areas are managed, publicized and syndicated with Cell.Marketing’s Search Portal login. The remainder of your class, following this SEO and Internet Marketing introduction lesson, will cover managing your Local Search Portal (login provided by Cell.Marketing), along with managing other Search Engines which require direct hands on activity to manage your business listing page – like Google.

With local SEO we know the key to showing in the local maps pack is to focus on Locations (Lc) and ensure your Citations (Ci) are set up and accurate. This includes NAP (NAP) consistency across platforms and citation sites and a complete GMB (GMB) profile — including choosing the right categories, keeping your listing updated,
and engaging with your listing regularly. A key element of GMB listings is, of course, Reviews (REV). Not only is it critical to have a strategy to solicit reviews from your customers but also to ensure you’re asking the right questions to get keywords in those reviews. Plus, it’s critical to respond to those reviews — whether they’re good or bad.
