Basics of Modern Communication

Communication tools may have changed, but the experience of the people involved in the conversation is still based on one sharing their thoughts with another person. This training is dedicated to all of us who want clarity in communication and would love to feel more confident with this skill set.

I acknowledge my parents for treating polite conversation as our family’s golden rule which led to a profitable career selling and pastoring. This was assisted by reading every “poker tell” book I could find, and listening to my wife who is a wonderful psychotherapist.

The World Wide Web is social

Conversation never stops. Many books (written by people claiming to be experts) state that 2/3rds or more of our communication happens outside of the words we speak and type. Each of us continually communicates what is happening inside of our minds and hearts with or without our knowledge, intent and will …all day …every day. We read more than just body language, eye movement and breathing in others. We hear the pace, patterns and length of silence which mix with the other non-verbal cues peppering the words we use to communicate. Communication is an art and a science requiring listening with all 5 senses.

It is also important to begin with the understanding that communication is the central superpower of humans. We are able to share our thoughts with other people in startling detail and clarity. Like every superhero, it is when we don’t know how to properly use our superpower that we make a real mess of things. This is a book on how we communicate. Learn how to harness and grow your own superpower’s techniques, or others will use you as their tool.
